Phyllotheca australis, a horsetail from the late Permian period, are pictured in this embroidery. This plant was prevalent in wetland environments, and its above-ground stems and underground rhizomes (which resembled the above-ground stems) would have served as the primary food source for herbivores, much like grass does today. Its living relative is Equisetum.
